Prime for shelling and snorkeling, the shoreline of southern Siesta drops-off dramatically with coarser, darker sand. This beach and its amenities offer a more natural, “old Florida” feel. Enter a pleasant park-like setting with mangrove bordered lagoon. There are benches for shoreline fishing as well as picnic tables and grills scattered along the water’s edge. Shaded and screened from view is a play yard with volleyball nets, swings and restrooms.
Around the bend are two boat ramps and sandy drop-ins for kayaks and canoes offering passage to the Gulf. The beach does not provide for lifeguards or concessions yet there’s ample parking on the road with pathways over dunes to the water’s edge. Handicap parking is at the northern-end with wheelchair ramps. Looking for creature comforts? There are a few popular local eateries set back and across the road on Sarasota Bay.
